Vibraphonist, pianist, composer Karl Berger's "Conversations" is a fascinating collection of freely improvised duo performances featuring Berger with some of the musicians he most admires and with whom he has a decided empathy. Berger says the album "marks a new beginning" of a musical career which began some 40 years ago and which has included work with Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Steve Lacy, John McLaughlin, Elvin Jones and Sam Rivers. Berger says of the album: "It is very satisfying to me musically. It evolved so naturally and it is different from anything I've done before." "Each improvisation pairs Berger in a 'give-and-take' with a different artist and their emotions.
